First UK £1,000 return rail ticket.

One tenth of £1,000.

The London Evening Standard reports that a first-class “walk-on” return from Newquay in Cornwall to Kyle of Lochalsh in Scotland is now £1,002.

(A hat tip to the Fact Compiler and an acknowledgement to Barry Doe.)

  1. In a vain attempt to cheer me up my local ticket office told me that the 2nd class fare is ONLY some £400.

  2. Wonder how much a first-class walk-on return ticket from Moscow to Vladivostok would set you back…

    • Well I could do Moscow – Beijing one-way for £410 one-way in 2nd class 4-berth or £570 in 1st class 2-berth…

  3. I suppose it could be claimed that on the British journey, you get more exciting scenery for your money — at least, except near the Beijing end of the other run?
